Cinderella, I Wish!

Enlightening & Empowering the Nation

Troubador Black History Month Blog by Dominiquè DeVeraux

In 2019, diversity in literature is more evident than ever before. With the imploding growth of Ebook platforms & Indie Publishing services, there are more opportunities than ever before to have your work published. This shift is driving the diversity in literature & feeds the book lovers appetite for exploring & discovering voices & storytelling from every inch of the world.

Sadly, marginalised authors still struggle to penetrate traditional mainstream publishers. As both a published & Self Published Author, I have battled to get my manuscripts accepted. And, 25 years since, my first book was published, it appears that not much has changed as mainstream publishers still fail to see the value of diverse voices or unknown authors.

But thanks to the growth in Author Self Publishing services, the book world is becoming enriched with diversity & new authors.

With my ‘FOMO’ in tact, I jumped on the bandwagon with my new book, I opted to Self Publish ‘‘Cinderella’, I Wish! with Matador, who offered a 5 star service at a competitive rate. I thoroughly enjoyed the autonomy the process afforded.

Moreover, I have overcome the publishing barriers, ill health & disability, to tell the world my story of murder, kidnapping, domestic violence, rape & a miracle baby, from the perspective of cross cultural dynamics, child/woman, middle class, able/disabled, Black British/Barbadian stand point.

It’s ‘Authors Time!’ Regardless of your country of origin, language, colour, culture, class, disability, religion, gender or sexuality, you can be an author!

My book cover is awesome! It is Simple but conveys the essence of my book perfectly. Initially, I had my own detailed concept for the book cover. But after consulting with some Illustrators, my marketing team & doing some research I decided simple & bold would be more effective. My book cover design has received great reviews on Netgalley. A reviewer said ‘You had me from the cover!’

Things to consider when choosing your book cover........

* Your book cover has to stand out in the world of books.
* Your book cover needs to attract your readers.
* Your book cover should visually link to the content of your book.

There are thousands of book cover design concepts so it is important to do some research into ‘what’s hot & what’s not’ in the book cover world. https://99designs.co.uk/blog/trends/book-cover-design-trends-2019/,https://99designs.co.uk/blog/trends/book-cover-design-trends-2019/ ,

After 3 years of writing, rewriting & 6 months working with my publishing team my book is finally here. I am so grateful to see my dream come to life! My joy is growing with the 5* reviews which are rolling in..... but I appreciate all reviews, let me know what you think of  ‘Cinderella’, I Wish!

I would also, like to give my heartfelt thanks to my family & friends who supported my dream & encouraged me to keep it pushing, through the darkest of days. And I give all the praise to the King of Kings & Lord of Lords🙏🏾
